New Job
Some of you already know this, but I haven’t put it out there for the world to know… So here’s the big announcement I’m sure you’ve been anxious to hear/read! ;-)
Last Sunday I got an email out of the blue from the IT director at a company I’d interviewed at 2 years ago, just before graduating from UTD. We exchanged a couple emails, and he wanted me to come in for an interview. So I did, and badabing – on Friday I received an offer, which I accepted!
I’m going to be a system adminstrator (sysadmin) for another software company, Telligent Systems. They make (among other things) a product called Community Server, which sites such as MySpace, MSNBC, etc. run on. I’ll be part of a 3-person IT department, which will be expanding further, with a focus on scripting and automation, finding ways to improve efficiency.
It’s a much smaller company thatn McAfee, and they’ve got a completely different culture — much like Google. Everybody has their own office. Shorts, T-shirts, and flip-flops are the norm. They’ve got game rooms (Xbox w/ big-screen TV, ping pong table, pool table) for people to unwind in. Scooters in the hall to get from one end of the building to the other.
I’m EXTREMELY excited about this move, and can’t wait to start over there. I’m not going to badmouth McAfee, but if you’re reading this you probably know how I feel about most of my coworkers there, the environment, etc., etc. My boss wants me to keep it hush hush until he’s had a chance to talk to the rest of the team (he was out today); he’s afraid others will want to jump ship. So for now I’m pretending like nothing’s going on, at least at the office. Hopefully he’ll tell them tomorrow. I already started bringing things home today.
But that’s my big news! I start at Telligent on the 14th. I’d hoped they might just walk me out today, but I guess I’m not that lucky. ;-)
Did I mention how jazzed I am about this opportunity?!?? :)
