Sign of the Times

One of our quasi-traditions since moving into our house has been to go pick up breakfast somewhere one morning on the weekend. We didn’t do it yesterday, so today’s the day…

In our travels yesterday we discovered a place we haven’t checked out yet, Kolache Station Bakery — so that’s where I’m headed now.

Here’s the sad part.

Before I head out, I had to sit down and search GasBuddy for the cheapest gas along the route. Technically the cheapest ($3.59/gal) is 6 miles out of the way — the cheapest place that’s actually on the way is $3.65. So is it worth 6 cents a gallon for 12 extra miles (round trip)? Kinda sad, huh?

Well, yeah, but what’s even more sad (sadder?) is that I actually figured it up… I’ll spare you the math, but it boils down to this: topping off my tank at $3.59/gal as opposed to $3.65/gal would save me $0.59. BUT it would cost me $0.72 to drive over there and back. So I’m just getting the $3.65 gas that’s on my way to Kolache Station.

DISCLAIMER: I had been up since 3am when I figured this up… I’m not sure I did my math right, so take the 72 cent figure with a grain of salt. ;-)
