No Wonder

No wonder I didn’t hear the emergency warning sirens the other morning when those storms blew through! From the Dallas Morning News:

As powerful storms moved through North Texas early Thursday morning, Allen, McKinney, Frisco, Lancaster, DeSoto, Farmers Branch, Cleburne, Hurst, Euless and Bedford activated emergency alert sirens.

But other cities, including some that suffered significant damage – like Plano, Colleyville and Southlake – did not.

So what are the criteria for activating the sirens?

It varies slightly from city to city, but generally, emergency officials sound sirens because of at least one of two factors:

• A tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service for a city or neighboring city [BL - hello, they did]

• Tornadic conditions are observed by police or fire officials in the city.

Plano did not activate weather sirens because officials believed conditions didn’t warrant it, said Assistant City Manager Bruce Glasscock.

That’s bull__it!!

I’m pricing a weather radio so we won’t be caught off guard again.

    Geeez.....Thats terrible!
I hope no one was injured as a result...You get such horrible storms over there, compared to our mild weather (Australia)...Even what we consider wild, is very tame in comparison...A radio sounds like a good idea...hugs
