PaperBackSwap.com

I have blogged about this before but got a lukewarm response….

For anybody that likes to read, this is a deal you should jump on quickly–signing up for PaperbackSwap.com! Why, you ask? Well because the initial credits they give you when you first sign up are changing.

What is a credit? How does it work? When you sign up (for free) and post 9 books that you are willing to trade with other members (a simple process of entering the ISBN off the back of the books), then they give you 3 credits. A credit is what is used to request a book from another member.

Say you are a member and discover that I have a book you’ve been wanting to read. You click a button to request the book. The system sends me an email saying to send the book to you (I pay the shipping, all of $2 for media mail), and it deducts one credit from your account.

How do you get more credits? You can buy them, or you can earn them by sending books to other members.

But what is the hurry, you ask? As I said before, once you post 9 books they give you 3 credits. But this is changing on October 5, at which point you’ll only get 2 credits once you post 10 books.

Here’s a snippet from the original email I received this morning:

Initial Credits

Autumn is a time for change, and PaperBackSwap is no exception! Yes, the site is constantly evolving, but one thing has always been true until now: each new member was given 3 “startup” credits when he or she joined and posted the first 9 books. But on October 5th, 2007, this policy will change.

Members who join after October 5th will get 2 startup credits for the first 10 books they post. We believe that this small change will increase the viability of PaperBackSwap.

This means that if you know of anyone who has been thinking about signing up but hasn’t, tell them to do it now!

I told someone earlier – between PBS, half.com, and Half Price Books, I haven’t paid full price for a book in years. It’s easy, and it’s cheap – so why not give it a shot? And here’s an added benefit – If you follow my link as a referral, I get a credit once you’ve signed up and posted your books. :)
