Quick Update
AT&T came out on Friday, arriving at our apartment around 9:00 am. The installer left, after getting our internet, 2 set-top boxes, and 1 DVR up and running, around 6:30pm that evening. Yes–9.5 hours is how long it took this time around… The problem was due to the wiring in our apartment, but we finally got a workaround in place and everything is up and running.
The internet is blazing fast!! It’s awesome!!!! For anybody that’s interested you can see speed test results here. I can VPN into work and remote desktop to my PC, and it’s just like being there — no lag whatsoever. Now if only I had dual monitors here at home like I do there… (actually I VPN’d in on my desktop, and on my laptop, just to see if I could! lol)
The TV service is cool for the most part, although the DVR leaves much to be desired. I knew we were spoiled with our Tivo box, but… this is going to take some getting used to. I’m determined to give it a couple weeks at least before giving up, but already we’re thinking we want our DirecTV with Tivo. The DirecTV service itself isn’t that great–it’s just the Tivo box. And some news on that front which makes this decision even tougher: on July 31 news was released that DirecTV will be releasing a software update for the Tivo boxes early next year, leading to speculation of a renewed relationship between DirecTV & Tivo. Even though the service flakes out every time a cloud thinks about flying by – it would be worth it to have the sophistication of the Tivo DVR. I just don’t see how AT&T can be signing people up on this new service with such an immature product (speaking only of the DVR right now).
In other news… We saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix again Saturday night — but this time at the IMAX in 3D!! It was **AWESOME**!!! Actually just the last 20 minutes or so was in 3D, but it was spectacular. Just looking down the hallway in the Department of Mysteries was way cool with the gargoyles and such… Imagine that fight scene at the end, and the glass shattering, and… well, it was very cool. lol
This week won’t be much fun for me at work. I’ve got meetings almost every day, including an All Hands with one boss, and another one later in the week with another. Yeehaw. Then next week our counterparts from India are flying over for 4 or 5 weeks of training. All this with projects flying every which way and deadlines looming. I had one on Monday this past week, and the project was held up by my team lead because he forgot to send an email. Supposedly part of my next quarterly bonus hinged on getting the deliverables delivered on Monday… You’d better believe I’m keeping the documentation that shows I was ready the week before!!
Anyway… blech. It’s been nice not thinking about work today.
Don’t forget — the HRC/Logo Presidential Forum is on Thursday.
I guess that’s all for now. I’m going to find something to watch on TV for a while…
