NY Pics: St. Patrick’s Cathedral

Another must-see attraction for me was St. Patrick’s Cathedral (official site, Wikipedia). We walked by it on my last visit to NY and snapped a picture from the back, but I couldn’t tell how awesome it was from that perspective. I think Gothic architecture is cool (I want to go to Europe so bad!!), and have always been intrigued with (and scared of) the Catholic church.

We went to see St. Patrick’s Sunday evening but couldn’t get in, so we had to make a second trip to see the inside. We didn’t get nearly as many pictures of the inside as I would have liked, but you can appreciate how beautiful it is.

The main front door.

This is the side front door (on the left) which was where we went in on our second visit.

Pictures just don’t do justice to the real thing… It was vast! And those Gothic arches worked exactly as designed – they draw your eye up towards the heavens.

There were bas-reliefs (don’t be impressed, I had to look up that word) all around the inside of the church.
Isn’t Wikipedia awesome? I learn something new every day off that site… These reliefs are called Stations of the Cross.

Thanks!! I can't take credit for most of them though... Keith has a much better eye, and actually knows how to use a camera. I only took the ones from Top of the Rock b/c Keith is so afraid of heights he could barely function up there. ;-)

Your pics of New York are absolutely FANTASTIC. I especially like the ones from the Top of the Rock. That Central Park one is worthy of being desktop wallpaper.
